Little Heroes returned to Lattakia, Syria, from 9th to 11th August. We are proud to say that 150 children took part, supported by 30 volunteer leaders.
The theme of our programme was "The Children of the King". Over the three days, we taught the children:
Who is the King? From the birth of Christ to his arrival in Jerusalem
The Characteristics of the Children of the King. (Galatians 5 22-23: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.")
How the Children of the King should behave, using the example of Timothy, who changed from a spoiled person into a true follower of Christ.
Some of the children who previously took part in Little Heroes have now gone home, so we welcomed many new children this time.
For part of each day, we split the children according to their talents (crafts, art, drama, music and writing) so that they could spend some time being creative, based on the day's theme. At the end of the programme, the parents of the Little Heroes came to see the fruits of the children's work, including watching a play and viewing a big display of arts and crafts.
Special thanks are due to The Revd Salam Hanna, who hosted our event at the National Evangelical Church of Lattakia, to the wonderful Little Heroes team led by Elza Nasra, and to all of the volunteer leaders. Thanks also to all of the churches who supported this programme and who sent their children, and whose young people helped to lead this truly ecumenical programme.
